We are happy that you enjoy visiting Colusa and Sacramento River national wildlife refuges. We are always working to improve the habitat for resident and migratory birds and other animals. As you noted in your comment, last year was definitely an unprecedented wildfire season in California. Fortunately, Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge only had two small wildfires, both less than a .10 (1/10) of an acre. Due to our prescribed fire and mechanical work, the fuel reduction and habitat improvement made it safe for the fire fighters to put out the wildfires quickly and safely. This year California is still in drought but the Refuge fire staff were able to implement one prescribed fire on Colusa National Wildlife Refuge for 97.2 acres and one prescribed fire on Delevan National Wildlife Refuge for 253 acres. We are very aware of fire issues and working hard to be proactive and create good habitat for the critters. We hope that you return soon to visit the refuges. Thanks for reaching out!
