National Wildlife Refuges offer unparalleled outdoor recreation, including unmatched fishing opportunities. Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge on the Gulf Coast of Texas near Houston is an extremely popular spot to enjoy birds, alligators, and a bit of peace of quiet along the trails throughout the Refuge. But, it is also an excellent fishing and crabbing spot as well.
Saltwater and Freshwater Fishing
Located along East Galveston Bay, the Refuge is bordered by marsh habitat; the perfect home for blue crab, shrimp and numerous species of fish. Offering both saltwater and freshwater fishing opportunities, you will find boat ramps, roads, and parking areas for fishing along East Galveston Bay and various Bayous.
Free Fishing Days
In fact, fishing is so popular at the Refuge that each spring and fall it hosts a “Free Fishing Day” for anyone wishing to participate. The Refuge partners with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to provide poles, bait, and crabbing supplies during these events.
